Looking after pets takes time

Looking after pets is a huge commitment that takes a lot of time, many people get a pet without thinking about how much time they need to spend looking after it every day. Our inspectors now investigate more than 130,700 complaints of cruelty and neglect every year.

This lesson looks at the daily responsibility of pet care, the amount of time and the activities required to look after a pet properly. This lesson gets children thinking about this by getting them to create a diary of what a pet would need from them in one day, on top of an already busy school day! Who is responsible for the pet? Who will pay for his/her food? What if the animal gets sick? These are all questions that pupils should think about.
